Paravel Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Paravel ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use paravel.co (the "Site") and the Paravel mobile app (the "App").

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

We collect only the information you choose to provide directly:

• Email address, when you join our waitlist.
• Correspondence, when you contact us directly, such as by emailing hello@paravel.co or sending app feedback.

Website Information

When you visit the Site, our hosting providers may automatically process standard server log information, such as IP address, browser type, request timestamps, and pages requested. We use this information for security, troubleshooting, and operating the Site.

App Usage and Reading Analytics

The App may collect first-party analytics so we can understand whether storybooks are working well and where readers stop. This may include:

• A randomly generated app install identifier and session identifier.
• App version, app version code, platform, Android version, and device model.
• Storybook activity, such as library opens, storybook opens, downloads, purchase flow events, notification interactions, reading progress, completion status, stop points, elapsed reading time, and chapter, chunk, section, or unit identifiers.

We do not use these analytics for advertising. We do not intentionally collect raw story text, names, email addresses, or precise location through reading analytics.

Storybook Streaming and Downloads

The App loads the storybook catalog and storybook content from remote storage so storybooks can stream without being packaged inside the App. When the App requests catalog files, story chunks, images, audio, or other story assets, our hosting and delivery providers may process request information such as IP address, device/network request metadata, and timestamps for delivery, security, and operational purposes.

If you download a storybook for offline reading, the downloaded storybook files are stored locally on your device.

Reading Progress and Local App Data

The App stores some information locally on your device, such as reading progress, selected settings, downloaded storybooks, and purchase entitlement state. Local app data remains on your device unless you delete it, clear app data, or uninstall the App.

Purchases

Paid storybooks are purchased through Google Play Billing. Google processes payment information under Google's terms and privacy policy. Paravel does not receive your credit card number or full payment account details.

The App may receive and store information needed to provide access to paid storybooks, such as product identifiers, purchase status, and purchase tokens or entitlement records.

Notifications

If notifications are enabled, the App uses Firebase Cloud Messaging to deliver notifications about Paravel updates, storybook launches, and related App messages. Firebase may process app instance identifiers, registration tokens, topic subscriptions, app version information, and message delivery information to provide notifications. The App may also record whether notifications were displayed or opened so we can understand notification performance.

You can control App notifications through your device settings.

How We Use Information

We use information to:

• Notify you about Paravel, storybook launches, and related products.
• Respond to inquiries and support requests.
• Operate, maintain, secure, and troubleshoot the Site and App.
• Stream storybooks and related media to the App.
• Save reading progress and offline downloads on your device.
• Provide access to purchased storybooks.
• Understand aggregate reading behavior, storybook completion, stop points, download behavior, and App quality.
• Send optional push notifications if permitted by your device settings.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your information for third-party advertising or targeted advertising.

Third-Party Services

We use service providers that process information on our behalf:

• Buttondown, for waitlist email collection.
• Netlify, for Site hosting and form routing.
• Cloudflare, for storybook hosting, content delivery, server logs, and first-party analytics infrastructure.
• Google Play, for App distribution, updates, and in-app purchases.
• Firebase Cloud Messaging, for App notifications.

These providers process information under their own privacy policies and terms. We use them to operate the Site and App, not to sell user data.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

The public Site does not use tracking cookies or third-party advertising cookies.

The App does not use browser cookies for advertising. Some service providers may use identifiers or tokens necessary to provide App functionality, such as Firebase notification tokens, Google Play purchase records, or Paravel's randomly generated install identifier for first-party analytics.

Data Retention

We retain information only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this Policy:

• Waitlist email addresses are retained until you ask us to remove them or until they are no longer needed.
• Correspondence is retained as long as needed to respond to you and maintain support records.
• App analytics are retained as long as useful for understanding App performance, storybook quality, usage trends, security, and troubleshooting.
• Purchase entitlement records may be retained as long as needed to provide access to purchased storybooks, restore purchases, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes.
• Local App data remains on your device until you delete it, clear app data, or uninstall the App.
• Server logs are retained according to our providers' operational and security practices.

Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. Data transmitted between the App, Site, and our service providers is sent using modern encrypted connections such as HTTPS where applicable.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to limit the information we collect and protect it appropriately.

Your Choices and Rights

You can:

• Unsubscribe from waitlist or email communications by using the unsubscribe link where available or emailing hello@paravel.co.
• Disable App notifications through your Android device settings.
• Delete downloaded storybooks, clear App data, or uninstall the App to remove local App data from your device.
• Request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information by emailing hello@paravel.co.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, or other privacy laws.

Some information, such as Google Play purchase history, is controlled by Google and may need to be managed through your Google account or Google Play settings.

Children

Paravel is designed to be suitable for a broad audience, including families. Children should use the App with a parent or guardian.

We do not knowingly ask children under 13 to provide names, email addresses, contact information, precise location, photos, or other directly identifying information in the App. We do not show third-party ads and do not sell children's information.

The App may use limited identifiers and usage information, such as an app install identifier, reading progress events, purchase entitlement status, and notification tokens, to support App functionality, analytics, security, purchases, and notifications. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact hello@paravel.co and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

International Users

Paravel is operated from the United States. If you use the Site or App from outside the United States, information may be processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. If changes are significant, we may provide additional notice where appropriate.
